Pedagogy Statement
Embracing the messy work of learning is my ultimate goal.
I work to eradicate the myth of a singular right or singular wrong way to do a thing. Without curiosity and exploration (an equation that equals PLAY!) there can’t be learning, growth, or truth.
I seek truth. My role as an educator aims to open doors for my learners by working to understand where they are in their journey. That truth will then allow both me and my students to pursue their development and expansion.
I encourage students, by encouraging myself, to acknowledge and own both harm and victories as they happen. I believe this is the foundation for building an uplifting communal atmosphere where the full scope of our identities can begin to emerge.
The hope is to establish a culture of deep trust, respect and acceptance. I cannot know what is safe for all bodies – we are all coming from our own backgrounds, experiences, cultures, identities, perspectives, desires, capacities, abilities, and needs. However, I can reach for an environment that feels open enough to take risks and safe enough to support the moments of failure that are vital to learning and growth.

Responses to Mia’s educational work
I really appreciate the dedication and passion Mia has had while working with our students. I must admit I was hesitant in the beginning about having Drama club again this year for the students. They haven’t always shown consistent interest in the art of drama. However, Mia has been great in getting the whole class engaged and involved. Her presence has really made a positive impact on club engagement with the students.

The kids really respect Mia and she was able to help so many of them do things completely outside their comfort zone.
